The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has expressed concern about the amnesty legislation recently approved by the Surinamese government, which grants immunity for human rights violations committed during the military regime from 1982 to 1992. "As the IACHR and the Inter-American Court have emphasised, laws that seek to leave serious human rights violations in impunity are incompatible with inter-American human rights obligations," the statement said.
